Johannes Cornelis BODDINGIUS, child of Thomas BODDINGIUS and Maria Johanna OLIVIERSE. He was born 30 December 1868 in Goes (Z) at 6 AM in the house in ward A with number 168. His birth was registered the same day by Machelina Meijnderts, a midwife and presumably the one who assisted with his birth. He was named after his paternal grandmother Johanna Cornelia Snoep. He died 16 October 1949, at 5 PM, in Rotterdam (ZH), at age 80. His death was registered 18 October 1949, in Rotterdam (ZH). He married (1) on 12 November 1891 in Schore (Z), with marriage banns published in Schore (Z) on 1 November 1891and 8 November 1891, his sister in law: |

Wilhelmina STERK, child of Pieter STERK and Johanna van den BERGE. She was born 1 September 1868 in Schore (Z) at 12 noon, in the house in ward A with number 27b. She was named after her paternal grandfather Willem Sterk. Her birth was registered the next day by her father, in the presence of Johannes Kole, 29 years and Marinus van Zweeden, 44 years, both laborers living in Schore en Vlake (Z). She died 13 September 1911, at 6 PM, in the house Paul Krugerstraat 110, in Rotterdam (ZH), at age 43.
At the time of their marriage he was 22 years old and a first mate (stuurman), while she was 23 years old and with no occupation. Both were living in Schore (Z) at that time. Their marriage was witnessed by Joost Waverijn, 42 years, a farmer living in Kruiningen (Z), Willem Hemmekam, 51 years, village constable living in Schore (Z), Leendert Kabboord, 48 years, a smith living in Schore (Z) and Jacobus Mieras, 64 years, a laborer living in Schore (Z), none of them relatives of the bride or groom. The document was signed by all parties except her mother, Johanna van den Berge, who declared that she had not learned how to write.
Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Kralingen (ZH), where they were registered in the civil records on 20 January 1892 as living in the Alettastraat. Before the birth of their first child on 18 July 1894, they moved to the Brouwerskade A39 in Kralingen (ZH). In 1895 Kralingen (ZH) was annexed by Rotterdam (ZH) and they still lived on the Brouwerskade 39. It appears that the street later was renamed to Brouwersstraat. They lived there until at least 1901 and all their four children were born there. They later moved to the Rosastraat 171, Bloemfonteinstraat 4, Paul Krugerstraat 26a, Groesbeekstraat and Paul Krugerstraat 110, the address where Wilhelmina Sterk died in 1911.

Upon his arrival in Kralingen (ZH), Johannes Cornelis Boddingius' occupation was listed as first mate (stuurman). He apparently shortly after, started working as a dockworker (bootwerker / havenarbeider) and continued to do so until at least 1920.
On 11 April 1900, he was a witness at the marriage of his brother Anton Adriaan Karel Hubertus Bodingius in Rotterdam (ZH). On 12 October 1920 he was one of the registrants of the death of his mother Maria Johanna Olivierse, in Wemeldinge (Z).
Johannes Cornelis Boddingius and Wilhelmina Sterk had the following children:

Johannes Cornelis BODDINGIUS, after the death of his wife Wilhelmina Sterk, married (2) on 23 September 1914 in Rotterdam (ZH) at age 45: Jannetje HUSSELMAN, child of Willem HUSSELMAN and Eizabeth van der SPUIJ, born 11 November 1884 in IJsselmonde (ZH), died 18 February 1925 in Rotterdam (ZH), at age 40. Their wedding was attended by her father and the witnesses were Adrianus Treurniet and Paulus Hendrikus Rothmeijer, both brother in-laws of Jannetje Husselman. At the time of their marriage, he was 45 years old and working as a dockworker, loading and unloading grain (graanwerker), while she was 29 years old, without an occupation. Both were living in Rotterdam (ZH) at that time. After their marriage, they may have lived for some time in the Paul Krugerstraat 110, the house where Johannes Cornelis Boddingius lived when his first wife, Wilhelmina Sterk, died, but they later moved to the Beserstraat 64, in Rotterdam (ZH).
They had the following children:
On 25 June 1927, Johannes Cornelis Boddingius moved in as a boarder (inwonend) at the Hillestraat 37b, presumably Hillelaan 37b, the house of his son Pieter Marinus Boddingius' in-laws, Jacob van Schouwen and Jacomina Poulisse. On 2 November 1927 he moved to the Stokroosstraat 68, boarding with Arnoldussen and on 9 May 1928 to the Adriaan Pieterstraat 30, where a year later his daughter moved back in with him. On 17 July 1930 they moved to the Oudelandstraat 67, on 11 November 1930 to the Goede Hoopstraat 29b, on 3 September 1931 to the Delistraat 42a and on 19 July 1935, once again as a boarder (inwonend), to the Delistraat 20a, all in Rotterdam (ZH). |

Her birth was registered 20 July 1894, in Kralingen (ZH). The entry in the civil records makes reference of the fact, that her father was temporarily absent at the time of registry. She married 29 August 1917, in Rotterdam (ZH), with marriage banns published 18 August 1917 in Rotterdam (ZH): Cornelis (Kees) HATENBOER, child of Denis HATENBOER and Jannetje Wilhelmina den HARTOG, born 9 March 1880 in Hellevoetsluis (ZH). After their marriage, Pieter Marinus Boddingius and Cornelia Rosetta van Schouwen, moved in with her parents at the Hillelaan 37b, where six months later their first child, Wilhelmina Boddingius, was born. On 30 December 1920, they moved to the Brederodestraat 55b, where their second child was born. Pieter Marinus Boddingius, at the time of his marriage in 1919, was a skipper. Apparently he did this for about six months in order to qualify for a job with the Rotterdam Harbour Authority (Gemeentelijk Havenbedrijf), where he worked until his retirement in 1961.
He briefly worked there as a mailman, but since the early 1920's was a bridge-keeper (brugwachter). Before WWII, he worked at the Ruigeplaatbrug (see picture above) and also worked at the Head Office, at the Leuvehaven.
Around 1960, Pieter Marinus Boddingius and his wife moved into their own home in the Rilland Bathstraat 3. Unfortunately not too long thereafter, his wife Cornelia Rosetta van Schouwen, died from cancer and their youngest daughter Jacomina (Jo) Boddingius, together with her husband Wim Jansen and their son Ron, moved in with him. He continued to live there until he remarried in 1968.
Pieter Marinus BODDINGIUS, after the death of his first wife Cornelia Rosetta van Schouwen, married (2) on 20 February 1968 in Rotterdam (ZH) at age 71: Cornelia Maria van NIEUWPOORT, child of Gijsbert van Nieuwpoort and Cornelia Maria Boogaart, born 6 January 1900 in Rotterdam (ZH). In the fall of 1944, during the last year of WWII, he was picked up by the Germans and send as a forced laborer, to work in a village near Münster, Germany, which is a city close to the city of Laer, which coincidently and at that time of course unbeknownst to him, is the place the Bodding / Boddingius family originates from. In early 1945 he escaped and found his way back to Rotterdam (ZH), where he married shortly after the war ended.
He worked in the offices of the Dutch Revenue Department in Rotterdam (ZH) 1940 - 1956, Dordrecht (ZH) 1956 - 1962, Delft (ZH) 1962 - ???, Rijswijk (ZH) and again in Rotterdam (ZH). He retired in 1984 with more than 40 years of service.
They had the following children:
René Julien Roos (4) and his brother Marcel Lucien Roos (2) (in about 1955)
From 1950, the family lived in the Flakkeesestraat 119b in Rotterdam (ZH) until the summer of 1956 at which time they moved to the Patersweg 177 in Dordrecht (ZH). In 1962 they moved to the Professor Evertslaan in Delft (ZH) and in May 1968 to Bleijenburg 194 in De Lier (ZH). Although their children moved to different cities, the parents continued to live in De Lier (ZH).
They lived a very active live, which included sailing, camping, traveling and cross-country skiing and were also top notch bridge players. For many years in the seventies and eighties, you could find them every weekend from the spring to the fall and for many weeks during their summer vacation, in their sailboat the "Gaviota" on the waterways and lakes of Friesland, one of the northern provinces in the Netherlands.
After his retirement, they have exchanged the cold and wetness that sailing brings with it, for the warm weather in Spain, where they have been enjoying their house in Pedreguer for many months during the last fifteen years.
Throughout their lives they volunteered their services to many groups and causes and for over three decades were actively involved with the "Natuurvrienden" (NIVON).
