Generation X - Branch c / Anton Adriaan Karel Hubertus Bodingius

Xc

Anton Adriaan Karel Hubertus BODINGIUS, child of Thomas BODDINGIUS and Maria Johanna OLIVIERSE. He was born 19 May 1871 at 10 AM, in the house with number 172 in Wemeldinge (Z). His birth was registered by his father, the same day in Wemeldinge (Z).

It should be noted that the clerk made a mistake in the spelling of his father's last name, which was written as Bodingius, with a single "d", instead of Boddingius with "dd". Thomas himself signed the birth registration as Thomas Boddingius. Because this mistake was never corrected, Anton Adriaan Karel Hubertus' last name and that of his descendants, became Bodingius.

He was christened on 25 June 1871 and was named after his maternal grandmother Anthoinetta Adriana Carolina Harinck.

He died 7 August 1916, at 6 PM, in the house at Coolsingel 63, in Rotterdam (ZH), at age 45. His death was registered on 9 August 1916 in Rotterdam (ZH), by Johannes Fredrik Mattheij, mortician (lijkbezorger).

He married 11 April 1900 in Rotterdam (ZH), with marriage banns published 24 December 1899 and 31 December 1899 in Rotterdam (ZH) and Schore (Z):

Gardina NOORDIJK, child of Johannes NOORDIJK (vegetable merchant (koopman in groenten)) and Louiza Dorothea Joppe (born 29 January 1851 in Sommelsdijk (ZH)).

She was born 28 February 1874 in Sommelsdijk (Z) and died after 1944.

Their marriage was witnessed by Andries Pieter de Graaff, Jacob Joppe, Johannes Cornelis Boddingius and Pieter Bodingius, the last two brothers of the groom, all living in Rotterdam (ZH). The wedding was attended by both sets of parents.

At the time of their marriage, he was 28 years old, a stoker (vuurstoker) and living in Schore, while she was 26 years old, without an occupation and living in Rotterdam (ZH).

They had the following children:

  1. Thomas (Tom) BODINGIUS, born 30 September 1902 in Rotterdam (ZH), died 28 October 1977 in Rotterdam (ZH) at age 75.

  2. Louiza Dorothea (Loes) BODINGIUS, born 9 July 1906 in Vlaardingen (ZH) and died 14 April 1935 in Rotterdam (ZH), at age 28.

  3. Johannes (Jan) BODINGIUS, born 11 November 1911 in Rotterdam (ZH), died 11 July 2003 in Enschede (O), at age 92.

  4. Adriaan (Aad) BODINGIUS, born 14 October 1914 in Rotterdam (ZH). His birth was registered 15 October 1914 in Rotterdam (ZH).

He died in 1973 at about age 59. He was an office clerk (kantoorbediende).

On 3 January 1935 he moved to Manila, Philippines. On 2 October 1936, he returned from Manila, Philippines and moved back in with his family in the Bergschelaan 283d in Rotterdam (ZH).

On 28 July 1837 he moved out again to live on his own as a boarder (inwonend) on the Schoonebergerweg 71b in Rotterdam (ZH), only to return again on 6 November 1937 to live with his family in the Bergschelaan 283d.

On 29 September 1938 he moved with the other members of the family to the Statenweg 42c in Rotterdam (ZH).

According to an advertisement (shown at the right), placed by his mother Gardina Noordijk, presumably shortly after the end of WWII in May 1945, he worked at the Junkers (plane) factory in Dessau, Germany, a city near Leipzig, Germany, until September 1944, from where he left for an unknown destination.

  5. Jacob Marinus (Jaap) BODINGIUS, born 14 January 1916 in Rotterdam (ZH).

Who can provide information regarding my son

ADRIAAN BODINGIUS,

born 14 Oct. 1914. Until Sept. 1944 he was working at the Junkers (plane) factory in Dessau (Germany), from where he left for an unknown destination and hasn't been heard of since. Kindly requested to send information to G. MATTHEIJ- NOORDIJK.

On 19 April 1900, just after his marriage, Anton Adriaan Karel Hubertus Bodingius moved from Schore (Z), where he had been living with his parents, to Rotterdam (ZH).

Gardina Noordijk was already living in Rotterdam (ZH) at the time, after having moved there with her family on 10 August 1887 from Sommelsdijk (Z), her place of birth.

A.A.K.H. Bodingius and Gardina Noordijk moved to the Oost Blommerdijkscheweg 263 in Rotterdam (ZH) and later moved to the Jacominastraat 70, Paul Krugerstraat 75 (their first child Thomas was born there 30 September 1902) and Parellelweg 111, all in Rotterdam (ZH). On 15 December 1904 they moved, together with their first child, to Vlaardingen (ZH), where they registered themselves on 24 January 1905 and where their second child was born.

On 2 February 1907, they returned to Rotterdam (ZH), together with their two children and moved to the Pieter de Raadtstraat 4a. They later moved to the Parellelweg 111, where they had lived previously, then the Eendrachtstraat 16b, later renumbered to 24b, the Bellevoijstraat 6b and the Mauritsstraat 13b, all in Rotterdam (ZH).

Initially A.A.K.H. Bodingius was a stoker (vuurstoker). From 15 April 1907 until 26 April 1910, he was employed by the "Nieuwe Afrikaansche Handels Vennootschap" and was working as a machinist on the "S.S. Prins Hendrik", a ship owned by that company (see letter below).

He later owned (?) and operated a number of tow boats in the harbour of Rotterdam (ZH). He apparently died from blood poisoning contracted during his work in the harbour. At the time of his death his occupation was listed as machinist.

On 5 August 1929, Gardina Noordijk, together with four of her five children, namely Thomas, Johannes, Adriaan and Jacob Marinus, moved to the Berkelschelaan 58a in Rotterdam (Z).

Her only other child, Louiza Dorothea Bodingius, already moved out on 19 April 1928, a few weeks before her marriage. She also briefly lived in Goes (Z) between 20 March 1922 and 21 April 1922.

.

Gardina NOORDIJK,  married (2) on 28 August 1929 in Rotterdam (ZH) at age 55:

Johannes Fredrik MATTHEIJ, a widower of four months, born 8 November 1868 in Rotterdam (ZH), age 60 at time of marriage.

He was a concierge and "busbode". Coincidently, or maybe not so coincidently, Johannes Fredrik Mattheij was the mortician (lijkbezorger), who registered the death of Gardina Noordijks's first husband, Anton Adriaan Karel Hubertus Bodingius, 13 years earlier.

They did not have any children together.

Immediately after their marriage, he moved in with Gardina Noordijk and her children at the Berkelschelaan 58a in Rotterdam (ZH).

On 13 May 1935 the family, with the exception of Adriaan Bodingius, who on 3 January 1935 had moved to Manila, Philippines, moved to the Bergschelaan 283d in Rotterdam (ZH).

On 15 June 1935 Gardina Noordijk's son in law, Cornelis Johannes Klaassen, moved in with them, after the death of his wife, Gardina Noordijk's daughter, Louiza Dorothea Bodingius, two months before. He stayed there until he remarried on 12 August 1937.

On 2 October 1936, Adriaan returned from Manila, Philippines and moved back in with the family.

On 28 April 1937, Jacob Marinus Bodingius moved out after getting married.

On 28 July 1837 Adriaan Bodingius moved out again to live on his own as a boarder (inwonend) on the Schoonebergerweg 71b in Rotterdam (ZH), only to return again on 6 November 1937.

On 29 September 1938 Johannes Fredrik Mattheij, Gardina Noordijk and the children Johannes and Adriaan Bodingius, moved to the Statenweg 42c in Rotterdam (ZH), while Thomas Bodingius, after getting married a few weeks before, moved to the Statenweg 36b in Rotterdam (ZH) on that same day.

On 18 August 1939, Johannes Fredrik Mattheij, Gardina Noordijk and Johannes Bodingius moved to the Willem Frisostraat 8 in Hillegersberg (ZH). It appears that Adriaan Bodingius remained at the address on the Statenweg 42c in Rotterdam (ZH).

Johannes Fredrik MATTHEIJ, prior to his marriage with Gardina Noordijk, married (1) on 30 November 1892, at age 24:

N.N. van der MEIJ, born 16 February 1855 in Workum (F), age 37 at time of marriage. She died 24 April 1929 in Rotterdam (ZH) at age 74.

They did not have any children.
